Yesterday, Zenefits hosted a town hall style webinar about possible legislative and regulatory changes from the incoming Trump administration that would impact small businesses — and to offer advice as to how you should prepare.

The discussion was led by our own Chris Massey, Zenefits’ vice president of government relations and public policy, and joined by two experts on federal policy and politics: Podesta Group’s Randall Gerard and Amy Pellegrino.

The trio gave an update on the transition process and Cabinet picks, and how they expect President-elect Trump to approach his work with Congress. They also talked about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — which the Republican Congress will try to repeal by the end of February — and the fate of the Obama administration’s overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The latter is on hold following a recent ruling by a federal court, but as yet it’s unknown if the Trump administration will try to undo the overtime pay requirement.

As President-elect Trump looks to complete his team, Cabinet appointments to prominent posts like the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Labor, and the Small Business Administration will directly impact the work of small businesses across the country.

Zenefits will continue to provide updates in this space as federal policy and regulatory changes take shape. Yesterday’s  town hall webinar is the first in a new Zenefits series that Chris will continue to host in the coming months. His next session will cover transitional information on the first days of the Trump administration – stay tuned for updates here.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs can also find additional information on regulations and compliance at zenefits.com/resources, and through the U.S. SBA’s Small Business Technology Council, which Zenefits helped create earlier this year.
