Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, or PUA, is a federal program available to people out of work due to COVID-19 and are not eligible for regular unemployment compensation, such as independent contractors and self-employed workers. In general, PUA provides up to 39 weeks of unemployment benefits.

You need to file a claim with the unemployment insurance program in the state where you worked. Depending in what state you file your claim, it may be filed in person, by telephone, or online.

You can find your state unemployment office here: https://www.dol.gov/coronavirus/unemployment-insurance#find-state-unemployment-insurance-contacts
