Employers with more than 20 employees are usually required by law to provide COBRA (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) to terminated employees. COBRA gives workers and their families who lose health benefits the right to continue benefits for a limited time. This loss of coverage could be due to job loss, reduction in hours worked, death, divorce, or other life events.
Additionally, certain states offer state COBRA for those companies with fewer than 20 employees.
